Blush Placement: Face Shape Guide
Blush Placement Changes Everything
Most people apply blush in the same spot regardless of their face shape. But strategic placement can lift, slim, soften, or add structure — making it one of the most powerful tools in your makeup bag.
Find Your Face Shape
Pull your hair back and look straight into a mirror. Trace the outline of your face with your eye:
- Round: Width ≈ length, soft jawline
- Oval: Length > width, balanced proportions
- Square: Width ≈ length, angular jawline
- Heart: Wider forehead, narrow chin
- Long/Rectangular: Length >> width
Blush Placement by Shape
Round Face
Apply on the high cheekbones, angling upward toward the temples. This creates the illusion of more defined bone structure. Avoid the apples of the cheeks — it adds width.
Oval Face
You can wear blush almost anywhere. The classic apple-of-cheek placement works beautifully. Sweep slightly upward for a lifted effect.
Square Face
Apply in a soft, rounded motion on the apples of the cheeks. Blend outward in a circular motion to soften angular features. Avoid harsh lines.
Heart Face
Apply below the outer corner of the eye, blending outward and slightly downward. This balances a wider forehead by drawing attention to the lower face.
Long Face
Apply horizontally across the apples of the cheeks. This creates the illusion of width and shortens the face visually. Avoid upward sweeping — it elongates further.
Universal Tips
- Always blend — harsh blush lines are never flattering
- Start with less product (you can always add more)
- Cream blush looks more natural; powder lasts longer
- Match blush tone to your skin's undertone (cool/warm)
