DIY Rose Water Toner: Simple Recipe
Why Rose Water?
Rose water has been used for centuries in Middle Eastern and South Asian beauty traditions. Modern research confirms its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. It balances skin pH, reduces redness, and provides gentle hydration.
Ingredients You Need
- 1 cup dried organic rose petals (or 2 cups fresh)
- 2 cups distilled water
- Optional: 2-3 drops rose essential oil for extra potency
- Clean glass spray bottle or jar
Step-by-Step Method
Simmer Method (Best Results)
- Place rose petals in a saucepan and cover with distilled water
- Bring to a gentle simmer (do not boil — high heat destroys beneficial compounds)
- Cover and simmer on low for 20-30 minutes until petals lose their color
- Let cool completely, then strain through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth
- Transfer to a clean glass bottle and refrigerate
Steep Method (Easiest)
- Boil distilled water and pour over rose petals in a heat-proof bowl
- Cover and steep for 30 minutes
- Strain and bottle
How to Use
- Spray on face after cleansing as a toner
- Use as a setting spray after makeup
- Soak cotton pads for a soothing eye compress
- Mix with clay powder for a gentle face mask
Storage
Refrigerate and use within 2 weeks. For longer shelf life, add 1 teaspoon of witch hazel or vegetable glycerin as a natural preservative. If you notice any change in smell or color, discard and make a fresh batch.
