Vitamin C Serums Compared: 2026
Testing Methodology
We evaluated eight serums across stability, absorption, 30-day results, and tolerability on 12 participants.
L-Ascorbic Acid Serums
Strongest antioxidant protection but oxidizes quickly. Airless pumps maintained potency; dropper bottles discolored.
Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate
Stable derivative, less irritating, works for sensitive skin. Results comparable after eight weeks.
Key Findings
- Above 20% concentration adds no benefit, increases irritation
- Vitamin C + E + ferulic acid doubles photoprotection
- pH below 3.5 necessary for L-ascorbic acid
- Opaque packaging essential for stability
Best for Sensitive Skin
Sodium ascorbyl phosphate at 10% with ceramide moisturizer reduces irritation.
Storage Tips
Refrigeration extends shelf life. Brown or dark yellow serum has oxidized and should be discarded.
