Barrier-Repair Routine for Mature Skin
The Mature Skin Barrier
After age 40, ceramide production drops 40%, fatty acid synthesis decreases, and skin pH rises. This creates a compromised barrier losing moisture rapidly.
The Three Essential Lipids
Optimal repair requires 3:1:1 ratio of ceramides, cholesterol, and fatty acids. Products with this ratio show 2.5x better barrier recovery.
Morning Routine
- Gentle cream cleanser (pH 5.0-5.5)
- Hydrating toner with panthenol and beta-glucan
- Vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid 15%) on damp skin
- Barrier cream with ceramide NP, cholesterol, linoleic acid
- Mineral SPF 50 with zinc oxide
Evening Routine
- Double cleanse: balm + hydrating milk cleanser
- Retinol 0.3-0.5% (build to nightly over 8 weeks)
- Peptide eye cream with Matrixyl 3000
