Double Cleansing Method Explained Simply
What Is Double Cleansing?
Two cleansers: oil-based first to dissolve makeup and sunscreen, then water-based for sweat and dirt. This ensures truly clean skin.
Step 1: Oil-Based Cleanser
Apply to dry skin, massage 60 seconds. Oil dissolves oil, breaking down waterproof products. Emulsify with water, then rinse.
Best by Skin Type
- Dry: cleansing balms (shea butter base)
- Oily: lightweight oils (grapeseed, rice bran)
- Sensitive: micellar water (no rubbing)
Step 2: Water-Based Cleanser
- Gel: oily and acne-prone skin
- Cream: dry and mature skin
- Foam: combination skin (avoid high pH)
When to Double Cleanse
Evening only. Mornings need just water-based cleanser or a water rinse. Especially important with daily sunscreen use.
Common Mistakes
Coconut oil is comedogenic for most. Skipping emulsification leaves residue. Harsh high-pH cleansers strip the moisture barrier.
