Color Correcting Primer 2026: Fix Skin Concerns
The Color Theory Behind Correcting Primers
Color correcting uses complementary colors from the color wheel to neutralize unwanted skin tones. Green cancels red, peach/salmon cancels blue/purple, lavender cancels yellow/sallow tones, and yellow cancels purple bruising.
Green Primer: Redness and Rosacea
Best for: acne scars, rosacea, general redness. Apply only to red areas, not the entire face, or you'll look slightly gray under foundation. Thin, buildable formulas work better than heavy green creams.
Peach/Salmon Primer: Dark Circles
Best for: under-eye circles (blue-purple tones), dark spots on medium to deep skin tones. For fair skin, use a lighter peach; for deep skin, use a deeper salmon/orange tone.
Lavender Primer: Dullness and Sallowness
Best for: yellow/sallow undertones, overall dullness. Apply to the entire face for a brightening effect. Works especially well for olive skin tones.
Application Technique
Apply color correctors after skincare and before foundation. Use thin layers and build gradually. Let each layer set for 30 seconds before applying the next. Use a damp beauty sponge to blend edges.
Formula Compatibility
Silicone-based correctors work best under silicone-based foundations. Water-based correctors pair with water-based foundations. Mixing bases causes pilling and patchy application.
