Understanding Your Skin Dosha

Ayurveda classifies skin into three dosha types. Knowing yours helps you choose ingredients that balance rather than aggravate your skin.

Vata Skin (Dry, Thin, Prone to Fine Lines)

Characteristics: Dry, thin, cool to touch, prone to dehydration and premature aging. Tends toward flaking and dullness.

Best Ingredients: Sesame oil, avocado, rose, ashwagandha, shatavari. Rich, warming, nourishing formulations.

Routine: Oil cleanse, rose water mist, sesame-based moisturizer, facial oil (ashwagandha-infused). Weekly warm oil massage (abhyanga).

Pitta Skin (Sensitive, Reactive, Prone to Redness)

Characteristics: Warm, fair or ruddy, sensitive, prone to rosacea, acne, and sunburn. Inflames easily.

Best Ingredients: Coconut oil, sandalwood, aloe vera, neem, brahmi, chamomile. Cooling, calming, anti-inflammatory.

Routine: Gentle milk cleanser, aloe vera gel, sandalwood moisturizer, mineral SPF 50. Weekly sandalwood + rose mask.

Kapha Skin (Oily, Thick, Prone to Congestion)

Characteristics: Oily, thick, cool, large pores, prone to blackheads and cystic acne. Ages slowly.

Best Ingredients: Jojoba oil, turmeric, triphala, neem, tulsi, honey. Light, astringent, stimulating.

Routine: Honey + neem cleanser, triphala toner, light jojoba moisturizer. Weekly ubtan (herbal powder) scrub.
